Course details
This course will give learners a basic knowledge of the railways’ main infrastructure aspects (track, freight railcars, locomotives and their maintenance), as well as an introduction to the specific Canadian Railway Operating Rules and how they impact major functions within railway operations.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Describe basic components of freight rail cars, locomotive & track and their maintenance.
- Describe the use of radios on railways.
- Explain the purpose of the Canadian Railway Operating Rules and other railway documentation.
- Explain the purpose of railway signals.
- Explain safety factors while in a railway yard.
- Demonstrate basic safety procedures around freight equipment in a railway yard.
