Course Overview
Students will be introduced to the Architecture, Construction, and Engineering (ACE) industry and gain a broad understanding of how typical construction projects come about from conception through to completion, including typical project teams’ makeup, along with their roles, responsibilities and relationships. Students will also learn the fundamentals of building design, building science, planning, and construction processes, how drawings and other contract documents are used to communicate. They will present their understanding through individual and group projects and presentations.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe the ACE industry and the built environment including the project lifecycle, common sectors, types of construction projects and the parties involved.
- Explain the basics of typical contact documents.
- Interpret basic construction drawings.
- Create basic scaled orthographic drawings using hand drafting techniques.
- Perform basic construction tasks including the assembly of building envelopes.
- Explain fundamental building science concepts related to building envelope and impacts of elements on building assemblies.
- Explain the pathways and roles available for continued education and work within the industry.
