Course Overview
Presents an overview of the plastics industry with topics that include: general consumption of plastics, Canadian plastics industry, local plastics industry, and markets for plastics. Also how plastics are classified and the various types of thermoplastics and thermosetting plastics materials are discussed.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have knowledge of:
- Distribution of Petro-Chemical resources.
- Sectors of the Plastics Industry.
- Basic polymer chemistry: additional polymerization (Thermoplastics), condensation polymerization (Thermosets).
- Development of plastics material.
- Classification of polymers: source, light penetration, heat reaction.
- Advantages and disadvantages of plastics.
- Trade names, common names, generic names and abbreviations.
- Selected thermoplastics and their uses.
- Selected thermosetting plastics and their uses.
