Course Overview
This is the first of three EEG courses in the EEG Microcredential at BCIT. In this course, you will learn the basics of setting up and running an EEG recording, digital concepts, basic normal waveform patterns, artifacts and troubleshooting, and gross and cellular neuroanatomy and neurophysiology as it pertains to the EEG waveforms we record.

- This course is intended for those participating in on-the-job training, those seeking to cross-train and those seeking to upgrade their skills.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe an electroencephalogram (EEG) and the role of the EEG technologist in the clinical setting.
- Describe the basic setup of a patient for routine EEG testing.
- Identify EEG instruments, including how adjustments to instrument settings affect waveform display and how to maintain electrical safety during the recording of electrical signals.
- Explain principles of electrical safety and considerations for electrically sensitive patients in the EEG testing environment.
- Describe the EEG recording process from patient preparation through data acquisition.
- Identify common artifacts encountered during EEG recordings and describe appropriate troubleshooting techniques.
- Explain waveform characteristics, including techniques for waveform localization.
- Identify common normal EEG patterns.
- Understand basic gross and cellular neuroanatomy and neurophysiology as they relate to EEG waveforms.
