Course Overview
This course is a follow-up to the Nautical Institute Phase 1 (Dynamic Positioning Basic course) and Phase 2 (Dynamic positioning sea time experienced). It builds up on the basic course to provide realistic simulation. Dynamic positioning operation exercises to include errors, failures, and fault detection. Major topics include assessment planning, setting up and execution of dynamic positioning operation, alarms, warnings, emergency procedures, and operational simulation scenarios.
Prerequisite(s)
- STCW OOW Certification, Dynamic Positioning (Basic) and minimum 30 days sea time on DP vessel.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Use functional set-up and controls of a DP system.
- Plan, set-up, and execute different types of DP operations.
- Recognize alarms, warnings, and follow emergency procedures.
- Carry out risk assessment, contingency plans, and assessment of vessel capability.
- Operate DP systems in normal or worst-case scenarios.
