Course Overview
This is the capstone course of the program in which the student completes a comprehensive civil and/or structural design project. Design philosophy and methods are discussed and explored as they relate to the assigned project for the current year. The project is completed through team work. Each team will submit an engineering report and make an oral presentation. A faculty and/or industry advisor will provide guidance on the scope and direction of the project work as warranted.
Prerequisite(s)
- CIVL 7089 with a prerequisite of S, and at least 18 Level 7 credits + 65% GPA in Levels 5-7

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Design a civil engineering project from conception through to a completed plan. [1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 9, 11]
- Integrate information, ideas and concepts from previous courses into a comprehensive design effort. [1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 9]
- Identify approach and demonstrate the transition in thinking from an academic perspective to real-world engineering practices. [1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 9, 11, 12]
- Critically assess engineering decisions with respect to economic implications and environmental and societal impact. [4, 8, 9, 11]
- Employ teamwork skills to see a project to completion. [6]
- Conduct library and internet searches to find necessary engineering information. [12]

- Deliver formal oral presentations summarizing design work. [7]
