Course details
The course is divided into the following major modules: 1) Concepts and processes of business continuity planning. 2) Risk Assessment. 3) Business Impact Analysis. 4) Technology requirements and techniques. 5) Developing recovery scenarios and plans. 6) Maintaining and testing plans. 7) Use of templates and software to facilitate the development, maintenance and testing of BCP plans. Course instruction may also include guest speakers from local industry, instructional videotapes and off-site visits to demonstrate and reinforce course material. Students will work through a practical assignment where they will develop a real-world business continuity / disaster recovery plan.

- Admission to a Forensic credential program or permission of the Program Coordinator.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- List and describe the role and benefits of business continuity planning, and its significance to the long-term success of organizations in the light of old and emerging threats.
- Outline the concepts and processes of business continuity and disaster recovery planning.
- Define the relationship of BCP within an organization to other critical functions, including security, project development, business operations, statutory compliance, management and financial controls.
- Conduct the risk assessment process and use various methods to identify risks, threats and vulnerabilities.
- Conduct a business impact analysis, including development of impact metrics.
- Develop recovery strategies, plans and procedures, including maintaining and testing of the same.
- Develop escalation procedures for plan activation.
- Use software tools to aid in the development and implementation of Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Plans.
- Develop and test incident response plans for dealing with the immediate after-math of a disaster.
- Evaluate Understand the technologies and techniques, which can be used to facilitate data and service backup, recovery and availability.
- Evaluate and use external services and resources.
