Course Overview
This course teaches students how to select suitable materials for asphaltic concrete. Topics include plant and paving quality control, asphaltic cement testing, aggregate testing, and asphaltic mix design. The class will visit a producing asphalt plant.

- Basic computer competence and minimum of Grade 11 English.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Identify the types and uses of asphaltic cements and perform required asphalt cement test.
- Discuss the methods of sourcing and evaluating mineral aggregates.
- Design and calculate asphaltic concrete mixes.
- Review testing procedures in accordance with standards and codes (CSA, ASTM, etc.).
- Illustrate and explain the various asphaltic plants functions and performance.
- Describe the sub-grade preparation, paving procedure, compaction, inspection and quality control.
