Course details

Effectively communicating business analytics results requires knowledge of the intended audience as well as insight into the data. Knowing the questions to ask is supported by the skills to choose the correct modelling technique. Students will access a dataset, analyze it using quantitative methods, and select, format, and explore the data to discover trends and correlations. Multiple model scenarios will be explored, and students will learn to differentiate and effectively choose the correct model, and justify their choice within the framework of Business Analytics. Students will also expand on their knowledge of the ethical uses of data and the legal framework around freedom of information and protection of privacy.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  • Select and extract data from a database relevant to the business question at hand.
  • Use applicable quantitative methods to prepare the raw data for analysis.
  • Select key KPIs from the refined data relevant to answer a specific business question.
  • Use multiple techniques to develop working systems/models in order to predict business behaviour.
  • Establish data hierarchies to allow drill down with integrity and detail across different data sources.
  • Communicate effectively with business decision makers to develop model needs and communicate outcomes in a compelling manner.
  • Explain the value proposition of business analytics within an organization.
  • Complete end to end business modelling from needs analysis to results presentation.
  • Select the most effective method to convey meaning and insight from data.
  • Critically evaluate data and business analytics reports.
  • Apply business analytics appropriately within the scope of different organizational requirements.
  • Perform analyses while observing correct ethical and legal considerations for data use.​
