Course Overview
This course emphasizes the practices and field skills utilized in the planning, surveying and construction of resource roads and trails. Methodologies for road and trail surveys, road design, road construction, trail construction, road maintenance and deactivation are discussed. Safety, economic and ecological considerations are incorporated into the learning outcomes. Examples of how field survey data can be transferred to computer programs such as RoadEng Survey Map to produce survey plots is also included.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Describe low volume road survey standards.
- Explain methods for minimizing ecological impacts of resource roads and trails.
- Complete road and trail traverse surveys using commonly accepted survey procedures.
- Prepare digital planimetric maps of traversed roads and/or trails.
- Describe industrial and non-industrial users and uses for resource roads and trails in B.C.
- State common resource road uses regulations in B.C.
- Describe common resource road and trail construction methods.
- Survey, graph and evaluate profiles and cross sections.
- Describe the use of Resource Road Radios and Signage used in day to day operations.
