Course Overview
This course covers the forensic evaluation and documentation of injuries. It is designed to provide the medical, scientific and forensic principles relevant to the forensic health care of and investigation into both the fatalities of and survivors of injuries and trauma. Key topics include assessment and evaluation of various types of trauma - (blunt, sharp, gunshot, motor vehicle, pediatric, fire/thermal), the pathology of wounds, legal aspects of injury documentation, and trauma-informed care. Students will participate in online discussions, weekly quizzes, and mid-term and final assignments. Upon completion of this course, students will earn a digital badge titled "Forensic Injury Documentation and Evaluation"

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Compare characteristics of blunt and sharp injuries, gunshot wounds, and wounds related to motor vehicles, fires, and pediatric settings.
- Assess the mechanisms of injuries and differentiate patterns of injuries from patterned injuries.
- Apply forensic evaluation techniques to both living patients and fatalities.
- Document wounds and injuries for forensic purposes.
- Describe the medicolegal significance of documenting intentional and unintentional injuries.
- Describe strategies for trauma scene management and trauma-informed care.
