Course Overview
The term Living-Forensics refers to that part of forensic science that applies to the living patient in the resolution of legal issues. This concept is relatively new in Canada. This course is designed to provide the medical, scientific and forensic principles relevant to the forensic health care of living patients. The course will focus on assessment, documentation and evaluation of blunt and sharp injuries, gunshot wounds, thermal injuries, vehicular/pedestrian injuries, homicide and suicide events, occupation related injuries, mass disasters, biohazardous and bioterriorism events. Upon completion of this course, students will earn a digital badge titled "Forensic Injury Documentation and Evaluation".

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Outline the categories of living forensic patient case identifications.
- Assess blunt and sharp injuries including subcategories of each.
- Assess the mechanisms of injuries related to blunt and sharp injuries.
- Outline the principles of forensic assessment of the living patient.
- Plan the forensic investigative procedures for forensic evidence collection in the living patient.
- Outline the principles of forensic documentation of wounds and injuries.

- This is an ONLINE, asynchronous course; however, it is not self-paced. There will be specific timelines for assignments and exams. You will have weekly readings, discussions, quizzes, and a mid-term and final assignment to complete (although you do NOT have to be online at a particular time or on a particular day). There is no required textbook. On the start date of your class (not before), log into learn.bcit.ca to access your course link. Departmental approval needed.
