Course Overview
This course provides students with the necessary skills and techniques to navigate in confined and open waters. A detailed knowledge and application of nautical publications required for coastal navigation and passage planning is included in this course. An emphasis on the importance of updating charts and nautical publications is also provided.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Use and describe charts.
- Describe the reliability of charts.
- Convert compass courses and bearing to true.
- Explain the contents of the marine publications.
- Describe the buoyage systems.
- Describe the list of lights and range of visibility.
- Use distance measurement for navigational needs.
- Estimate the vessel's position on a navigational chart.
- Fix vessel's position by horizontal sextant angles.
- Fix vessel's position by transferred circles of positions.
- Calculate set and drift of tidal currents.
- Fix vessel position taking into account current and leeway
- Navigate in confined waters.
- Explain tidal terms.
- Calculate tides.
- Correct charts and nautical publications.
- Prepare a coastal passage route.
