About your exam
BCIT Test Centres can facilitate test takers with a variety of accommodations. If you are a test taker with an accommodation(s), please contact us directly to discuss your specific accommodation(s). Please note that before we can facilitate your accommodation(s), you will need to get approval from your home institution.
The format of your exam is determined by your home institution. Please confirm the exam format with your home institution prior to registering online with BCIT. We facilitate online, paper-based, and some mixed-media exams at all test centre locations.
All BCIT Test Centres are outfitted with computers for online testing. You are not permitted to use your own laptop at the BCIT Test Centres, unless you have received approval from your home institution. BCIT Test Centre staff will need confirmation of this approved accommodation from your home institution. If you need to use your own laptop for an exam session, please contact BCIT Test Centres so that our staff can make the appropriate arrangements for you.
Scheduling and payment
Examinations are scheduled online through our BCIT Test Centre website.
Before booking your exam through our online booking system, you must contact your home institution for guidelines regarding your examination. You should then have an idea of the approved time frame in which you can book your examination with BCIT. Having information such as name of your institution and the institution contact person and phone number will help you in the booking process.
If the date or time you are looking for is not visible on the online schedule, this means that your selection of date or time is not available. You may want to consider choosing another date, time, and/or another BCIT Test Centre location.
Your home institution is the college, university, or organization for which you are writing an exam. If you are taking an Athabasca University exam, your home institution is Athabasca University.
There is a non-refundable, non-transferable invigilation fee of $50 + GST for exams that are scheduled for 3 hours or less including Saturdays and evenings. If your home institution has allowed a maximum writing time in excess of three hours, an additional charge of $10 per hour (or part thereof) + GST will be added to the invigilation fee.
The recommended method of payment is by credit card, including Visa, Mastercard, and American Express, through the BCIT Test Centre website. Visa Debit cannot be accepted.
If you are not able to pay by credit card, the BCIT Burnaby campus will accept cash or debit payments at the registration desk. Please contact our BCIT Test Centres for specific instructions.
BCIT Test Centres are not able to reserve seats or take payments over the phone.
This form is intended for you to provide to your home institution as proof that you have secured a proctor with the BCIT Test Centre. If your home institution does not require proof, then you do not have to do anything with the form. Some home institutions have their own proctor form that students are required to submit. If you need the BCIT Test Centre to fill out a form for your home institution, please email us the form after booking your exam session. We will fill it out and return it to you within 1-2 business days.
Process of approval of supervision documentation can take 1 -2 business days. For urgent inquiries regarding this matter, please contact the Test Centre location at which you intend to write your examination.
If you are going to be late, please contact the test centre staff immediately. We will need to look at your home institution’s tardiness policy, as well as our booking schedule to determine whether you will still be allowed to write your exam. It is important to note that we cannot release your exam to you if we cannot facilitate the full allotted writing time for your examination.
It is mandatory that you bring valid, government issued photo ID to your exam session. Please note that a photocopy or a photograph of your ID is not acceptable. You may also bring in any items that are permitted by your home institution for your exam session.
Personal headphones are not permitted during an exam session, unless approved by your home institution. You are permitted to wear earplugs during your exam session. If you would like to bring in your own earplugs, they will be subject to Assessment Administrator approval prior use. Alternatively, we have disposable earplugs and noise cancelling headsets available upon request, which you are welcome to use during your exam session.
No electronic devices are permitted in the BCIT Test Centres. You will be asked to turn off all electronic devices, including cell phones, upon your arrival at the test centre. There will be storage areas available to put your electronic devices away in once you have checked in.
No food or drinks are allowed in the BCIT Test Centres. Exceptions will be made for medical/health circumstances. Please contact your test centre to inform them prior to your scheduled examination.
You may ask questions, but the Assessment Administrators cannot answer any content related questions regarding your examination.
Directions and guidelines will be given from your Assessment Administrator upon check-in for your examination. When you have completed your examination, the Assessment Administrator will be there for you to check out and submit the exam. Some home institutions allow test takers to leave the exam session if they finish early, and others require test takers to remain in the test centre for the entire exam session. For information regarding your home institution’s policy on exiting an exam session, please contact them directly.

Each home institution has its own washroom break policy, which BCIT Assessment Administrators will enforce. Your Assessment Administrator will relay your home institution’s washroom break policy to you during the check-in process for your examination session. For more information about your home institution’s washroom break policy, please contact them directly. There are washroom facilities available at each of the BCIT Test Centre locations, including unisex/gender-neutral facilities.
Rescheduling and refunds
All examination fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Exam bookings are non-transferable and non-refundable. We cannot transfer your exam booking to another time, date, or test centre, even if it is another BCIT Test Centre.
BCIT Test Centres are not responsible for transferring exams between test centres. We will return your exam back to your home institution, and you will be responsible for requesting that your home institution send your exam to the new test centre.
If you do not show up for your scheduled exam, you will be marked as a “No Show”. If you miss your examination due to a medical reason, please contact your BCIT Test Centre invigilation office to advise them and they will provide you with further instructions. You may be required to submit a note from your medical provider.
Test Centre facilities
There are eight BCIT test centres within our four BCIT campuses: Burnaby, Delta, Richmond, and Vancouver. Each location may have different hours of operation. For details, please see our exam sessions times and locations.
If your test centre is closed due to an emergency or intermittent weather conditions, you will be contacted by your test centre regarding rescheduling of your examination.
There are washroom facilities located at each BCIT Test Centre. Your Assessment Administrator will provide you with direction for access to the washrooms during the check in period.
Parking and transit
There is paid parking at each of our BCIT Test Centre locations, with the exception of the Annacis Island Campus (Delta), where parking is available at no charge on a first come, first serve basis. Find details on parking at BCIT.

The common cause of this issue is that your browser may be set up to block pop up windows. The BCIT Test Centre website requires the browser to allow pop up windows.
BCIT Test Centres are equipped with the latest browser software at each of their computer stations. Any specific software that may be needed for your examination will be directly communicated to us by your home institution prior to your examination.
If you come across a technical issue during your examination, please inform your Assessment Administrator for assistance immediately. Your Assessment Administrator will either troubleshoot this issue directly, contact your home institution, and/or contact our BCIT IT Services team to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
