Program Information:
The Metal Fabricator Foundation program prepares students for a hands-on career in steel fabrication, covering the selection, layout, cutting, punching, drilling, fitting, and welding of steel plates and structural shapes. Students gain practical experience fabricating components for industries such as forestry, mining, construction, transportation, and agriculture. Typical projects include bridges, conveyors, towers, cranes, and ship parts.
Delivered full-time and in-person at BCIT’s Burnaby campus, the program blends theory with extensive shop practice. Training covers safe work practices, blueprint reading, trade math, welding, material handling, and quality control. Graduates are ready for entry-level employment as metal fabricators or apprentices, with industry contacts available for job placement. This program is also a prerequisite for the Marine Fitter endorsement.
