Implementing Sustainability Management Best Practices in Major Projects

January 15 from 2:30 pm to 3:45 pm PST

Case studies from BCIT Campus Projects

Once seen as an optional “value-add” for asset owners, sustainable practices have become a priority and even a requirement for many projects. Whether the objective is to meet funding and/or regulatory requirements, earn a social license to operate, or to align with organizational objectives, sustainability has become a key component for infrastructure development.

Sustainable development is an important element of BCIT’s Campus Plan and built into the framework for major projects.

In this Living Labs lecture Sustainability Consultants, Quin MacKenzie and Jill Roth (Luuceo Consulting) who have worked on several BCIT projects, will explore how sustainability best management practices can be embedded in campus projects and how these align with BCIT policies and goals.

Sustainability Consultants support owners, designers and contractors to help create projects that are more efficient, effective, sustainable, and resilient. A key part of this process is being able to manage, track, and measure sustainable performance.

Topics include:

  • Understanding the history of BCIT’s approach to sustainability on campus, including the use of sustainability frameworks and rating systems
  • Exploring the approach to embedding sustainability practices into design and construction management through the application of the Envision framework
  • Sharing lessons learned and key success factors for implementing sustainability best management practices
  • Presenting career paths for students interested in sustainable development and credential options

Presenters:

  • Jill Roth, Senior Consultant, Vice President at Luuceo Consulting
  • Quin MacKenzie, Lead Executive Officer at Luuceo Consulting
