I am pleased to share a significant milestone for BCIT and Canada’s maritime sector. BCIT and Kongsberg Maritime have announced a landmark $76.5-million partnership to establish the Marine Innovation Simulation Centre of Excellence (MISE) at BCIT. MISE will be Canada’s first national hub dedicated to maritime simulation, applied research, and innovation.
Advanced simulation technology and flexible delivery models will expand access to maritime education and prepare graduates for a sector facing a critical skills shortage. Based at our Marine Campus in North Vancouver and Aerospace Technology Campus in Richmond, MISE is expected to benefit more than 3,600 learners annually during its first phase.
MISE will also give Canadian businesses access to technology, research expertise, and testing environments to accelerate innovation in areas such as maritime safety, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, automation, and low- and zero-emission operations.
This partnership advances our Strategic Plan 2025-2030 by transforming teaching and learning and enriching industry partnerships to amplify real-world impact.
