The Heart of the Fraser focuses on the ecologically important gravel reach of the Fraser River, which lies between Mission and Hope. This reach is among most important juvenile and adult salmonid and sturgeon habitat reaches in the Fraser River. This critical spawning and rearing habitat is threated by continued agricultural, industrial and commercial development, and currently does not have any legislated protection or comprehensive management plan. The book is composed of 9 essays by scientists, biologists, and Indigenous experts, and along with 48 pictures, describes the threats and beauty of one of the most important salmonid and sturgeon rivers in North America.

The book is available to order via Fraser River Discovery Centre.

In 2019, the Rivers Institute and NERV Productions produced a feature documentary on the Heart of the Fraser. Watch the official trailer below.
