BCIT Media Techniques for Business Certificate

The complete certificate program integrates Media Techniques for Business courses with those from other disciplines. Students have a wide range of electives to choose from and can therefore develop a program to meet their specific needs and goals.

Program Entry

You can register for individual courses for personal interest or you can complete a series of specified courses to gain an associate certificate, a certificate, a diploma or a degree. If you are working toward a credential, you must obtain approval from the program administration.

Many courses offered through Part-time Studies have prerequisites which are listed in the description for the course. If no prerequisite is listed in the course description, then none exists. Before registering, it is your responsibility to ensure you have completed courses or have skills and knowledge equivalent to the listed prerequisites.

Ongoing throughout the year.

Program declaration

To determine if the courses you intend to take will be applied towards a credential you must declare your program. This ensures that BCIT is aware of your intent to complete the program as it is currently outlined.

Program declaration enables you to declare a program of study and outline the courses you plan to complete to meet the program requirements. Program declaration also provides the opportunity to apply for transfer credit. Upon approval, a confirmation letter will be mailed to you outlining your program of study.

To declare your program, please submit the Part-time Program Declaration form [PDF]. This form is also available at Student Information and Enrolment Services. Please allow approximately six to eight weeks for processing.

Courses

The classes are typically three hours long, comprised of 1.5 hour lecture and 1.5 hours of hands on experience.

When learning software skills, the instructor will demonstrate and project the software in the classroom so that you can observe.

Program Details

The Media Techniques for Business Certificate program will give you the hands on skills and experience needed to:

  • Develop and design high quality computer graphics.
  • Have an understanding of colour theory principles as they apply to promotional materials.
  • Develop a professional computer presentation with animation and sound.
  • Create and write presentation copy materials.
  • Deliver a professional oral presentation.
  • Create portable document format files (PDF), with security, for electronic distribution.
  • Apply practical colour management techniques for accurate colour reproduction.
  • Prepare and present a professional portfolio.
