Overview

The Airport Operations Associate Certificate Program's purpose is to provide workers, currently employed by local, regional and international airports in Canada, the United States and globally with the opportunity to upgrade their technical and airport administration business skills. It will also be of benefit to those individuals who are not currently employed by an airport but are considering a career in airport operations.

The Program

This program consists of eight mandatory courses and one elective course totalling 25 - 27 credits. The program will focus on technological advancements in airport operations in such areas as security systems, airport master planning, airport safety, emergency preparedness and airport management practices.

BCIT also offers a full-time Airport Operations Diploma of Technical Studies program.

Program Entry

Program declaration

To determine if the courses you intend to take will be applied towards a credential you must declare your program. This ensures that BCIT is aware of your intent to complete the program as it is currently outlined.

Program declaration enables you to declare a program of study and outline the courses you plan to complete to meet the program requirements. Program declaration also provides the opportunity to apply for transfer credit. Upon approval, a confirmation letter will be mailed to you outlining your program of study.

To declare your program, please submit the Part-time Program Declaration form [PDF]. This form is also available at Student Information and Enrolment Services. Please allow approximately six to eight weeks for processing.

Grading

Successful course completion will require minimum pass standing of seventy (70%) percent.

Continue your education

Students requesting transfer to the full-time Airport Operations diploma program will be granted full credit for those courses taken and successfully completed through the part-time studies online Associate Certificate program.

The training offered in the Associate certificate can lead to a wide range of entry-level positions in the aviation industry. This could include positions such as: Ground Transportation Coordinator; Baggage/Gate Scheduler; Airside Operations Project Coordinator; Communications Coordinator; Administrative Assistant; Airfield Operations Specialist; Emergency Response Specialist; Airport Operations Officer; Security Officer; Project Specialist; Pre-screening Security Supervisor; Airport Duty Officer and Noise Information Officer and Airline Check In Agents.

Apply for graduation

Upon successful completion of all program requirements, complete an Application for BCIT Credential [PDF] and submit to Student Information and Enrolment Services.

Allow approximately six to eight weeks for processing.

All financial obligations to the Institute must be met prior to issuance of any credential.
