Course Overview
This hands-on course is aimed at those students who already know how to build basic web sites using HTML and a Windows PC. Adobe Flash is a platform for designing, creating and delivering rich internet content and applications. Beginning with an introduction to Adobe Flash CS5 Professional, students learn how build intermediate level websites that utilize Flash to create interactive content. Topics include working with graphics, animations, audio, video and the basics of ActionScript. Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to use Flash to create dynamic web content and be prepared to move on to the advanced level of Flash, COMP 1905. Please bring a pair of basic headphones to each class.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Recognize and utilize common tool bars, the time line and the stage.
- Locate and utilize the library.
- Create and position graphics, movieclips and buttons.
- Create and remove keyframes.
- Create basic shape and motion and alpha tweens.
- Discuss some basic animation tips and tricks.
- Add simple sound and text.
- Work with filters.
- Create and utilize layers.
- Import resources.
- Discuss some basics of working with video.
- Publish a movie destined for the web or CD ROM.
- Utilize motion guides and masking.
- Add and control movieclips.
- Add and manipulate sound.
- Utilize some of Flash components.
- Discuss preloading and how to construct a basic preloader.
- Load external movies.
- Discuss techniques for creating dynamic content.
- Integrate Flash with XML.
- Acquire number of tips and tricks for reducing file sizes and optimizing projects.
- Discuss what ActionScript is and why it is useful.
