Introduces the latest concepts and methodology in cost effective maintenance and physical asset management, moving from the traditional maintenance paradigms to the new technologies required to obtain world-class practices and be able to compete in the global marketplace. Topics include: preventive maintenance, predictive and proactive maintenance and RCM - Reliability Centred Maintenance.

Provides an overview of operations and production management to enable the maintenance manager to communicate more effectively with production managers. Topics include time management methods, production management, quality control, inventory control management, and the application to a maintenance environment including total productive maintenance (TPM). Prerequisites: PEMA 1000

Provides an overview of human resources (HR) management and how it relates to the maintenance management environment. Topics include legal aspects of HR, HR planning, recruitment and selection, performance appraisal, employee development, labour relations, leadership and team building and managing change. Prerequisites: PEMA 1000

Introduces basic accounting and finance which will allow the maintenance manager to effectively interact with the accounting and finance offices. Topics include cost accounting, budgeting, return on investment, inventory management, payroll, financial forecasting and depreciation. Prerequisites: PEMA 1000

This course focuses on the development and implementation of maintenance tactics to ensure that physical assets reliably perform to their designed specifications. Topics include failure mode and effect analysis, root cause failure analysis and reliability centred maintenance (RCM). Prerequisites: PEMA 1000

This course introduces the fundamental principles of planning and scheduling that will enhance process reliability while minimizing interruptions to production processes. Topics include planning and scheduling tools, work coordination methods, maintenance strategies, and physical asset management. Prerequisites: PEMA 1000

Under Development - This module is a study in choosing and implementing a suitable computer maintenance management system (CMMS).

Students will review and discuss the concepts from the previous courses to help enable them to apply the principles, latest concepts and techniques to real maintenance problems. Working in small groups or teams, students will each select an industrial maintenance problem. Upon approval from the instructor, the team will work together to provide a solution to the identified problem. Prerequisite: Completion of all other PEMA courses.
