BCIT Mechanical Engineering graduates drive innovation across global industries

The BCIT Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering program continues to prepare graduates for impactful careers across advanced manufacturing, clean technology, transportation, and industrial engineering. For Nima Kianipour, BCIT’s hands-on education provided the foundation for a career in one of the world’s most innovative technology companies. After graduating from the Mechanical Engineering degree program, he joined Tesla as a Mechanical Test Engineer, where he works on validating and improving advanced engineering systems.

Nima credits BCIT’s combination of theory and practical application for helping him develop the analytical and troubleshooting skills required in a fast-paced, highly technical environment. His journey demonstrates how BCIT graduates are contributing to cutting-edge technologies and helping shape the future of sustainable transportation.

Fazmin Mohamed‘s career path highlights the leadership opportunities available to BCIT engineering graduates. Today, he serves as Director of Manufacturing, Facilities and Digital Platforms at Svante, a Vancouver-based carbon capture technology company. Prior to joining Svante, Fazmin held engineering leadership roles at Tesla, supporting major manufacturing programs for the Model 3, Model Y, and Cybertruck.

Reflecting on his BCIT experience, he credits the program’s industry-focused, hands-on approach with providing the practical foundation and confidence needed to excel in demanding engineering environments. His success illustrates how BCIT graduates are advancing innovation in both clean technology and global manufacturing.

Don Marcellus, now Director of Hydraulic Services at Boundary Equipment, represents another example of the lasting impact of BCIT’s applied engineering education. Having completed both a Mechanical Engineering Technology Design diploma and a Mechanical Engineering degree at BCIT, Don has built a career focused on the design and manufacture of heavy industrial machinery and hydraulic systems.

His work has contributed to major infrastructure projects across British Columbia, including bridges and ferries. Don credits BCIT with helping him bridge the gap between theory and application, emphasizing the value of getting hands-on experience and understanding engineering challenges firsthand. He now mentors the next generation of engineers, including many fellow BCIT graduates.
