An affordable path to education
For many students, affordability is one of the biggest considerations when pursuing post-secondary education. Tuition costs, living expenses, and balancing work commitments can make full-time studies difficult.
Flexible Learning gives you more control over the pace of your education. Rather than making a larger commitment towards a traditional educational pathway, you can take courses one-at-a-time—based on your schedule, finances, and personal responsibilities.
Many students choose to take one to three courses at a time, allowing them to continue working while progressing toward their academic and professional goals. Others use Flexible Learning to complete prerequisites or explore programs before committing to a credential full-time. This flexibility helps you make steady progress while reducing financial pressure.
Explore career options before committing
Deciding on a career path can be daunting when you are still exploring opportunities. Flexible Learning allows you to explore different subjects through introductory courses across diverse industries. Many courses have few or no prerequisites, making it easier for you to try something new without committing to a full-time program right away.
You can gain exposure to areas such as business, technology, media, health sciences, trades, and more while learning directly from instructors with industry experience. For students still deciding what direction to pursue, Flexible Learning provides an opportunity to discover interests, strengths, and potential career paths through hands-on learning.

Balance school with work and life
A common reason why students choose BCIT Flexible Learning is the ability to balance school with other responsibilities in life. Many students work part-time or full-time while taking Flexible Learning courses. Others balance studies with parenting, caregiving, or personal commitments.
Rather than structuring life around school schedules, Flexible Learning allows you to build learning into your existing routines. Courses offered in the evenings, online, or in hybrid formats help you learn in ways that fit your life.
For recent high school graduates, Flexible Learning can also provide a gradual transition into post-secondary education while maintaining independence and flexibility.
Online learning is an option
