Celebrating BCIT 2025 valedictorians

As we head into the month of June, we celebrate our graduating BCIT students with confidence in the flexible, relevant, and future-proof education that has been the hallmark of the Institute for the past 60 years.

BCIT is excited to announce Pedro Cheng, Julia Tabo, Sophie Hansen, Justin Saint, Moksh Garg, Céline Loriot, and Immanuel Eum as valedictorians for the graduating class of 2025.

Pedro Cheng – Ceremony 1 (June 24 at 10:00 am)

Pedro Cheng is graduating from the Business Information Technology Management diploma program. With outstanding academic excellence, Pedro actively contributes to the BCIT community. From serving as a Peer Tutor, International Peer Mentor, and Global Education Ambassador to representing student voices on the BCIT Student Association Council and Program Advisory Committee, Pedro has embraced every opportunity to lead and support others. His involvement in campus-wide initiatives such as Big Info and the Education Plan Focus Group speaks to his dedication to shaping the future of BCIT.

Julia Tabo – Ceremony 2 (June 24 at 2:30 pm)

Julia Tabo is graduating from the Marketing Management diploma program. As the Captain and President of the BCIT JDC West 2024/2025 team, she rebuilt and led a 33-member team to compete at one of Western Canada’s top business competitions—earning the prestigious “Executive of the Year: David Huynh Legacy” award. She also represented BCIT at the AMA Case Competition in New Orleans, where their team placed third out of 75 schools. From supporting classmates as a set representative to establishing a partnership between BCIT JDC West and Canadian Cancer Society, Julia exemplifies outstanding leadership in her time at BCIT and dedication to giving back to her community.

Sophie Hansen – Ceremony 3 (June 25 at 10:00 am)

Sophie Hansen is graduating from the Broadcast and Online Journalism diploma program. She was an intern for CBC Toronto’s Investigative Unit and is the award recipient of the 2024 Jack Webster Student Journalism Award for community reporting. As an active and engaged member of the BCIT community, Sophie has represented BCIT and her program at Big Info, as well as the BCIT Broadcast Open House. She supports her fellow students as a student mentor and contributed to the BCIT Student Association’s MicroLink Podcast. Her advocacy work and dedication to the BCIT community and beyond has gained her a nomination for the 2025 YMCA Young Woman of Distinction Award.

Justin Saint – Ceremony 4 (June 25 at 2:30 pm)

Justin Saint is graduating from the Computer Systems Technology diploma program. In their time at BCIT, Justin has championed inclusivity and innovation through roles such as Chair of Computing for the BCITSA and Co-Chair of Pride BCIT, where they organized drag shows at BCIT to promote inclusivity within trades. Their work has brought students together, built external partnerships, and amplified underrepresented voices. Outside of BCIT, Justin volunteers weekly at the RAPS Cat Sanctuary and continues to uplift the local 2SLGBTQIA+ community through volunteering. With every project, Justin has inspired others to lead with purpose and pride—their leadership, creativity, and advocacy have left an enduring impact at BCIT and beyond.

Moksh Garg – Ceremony 5 (June 26 at 10:00 am)

Moksh Garg is graduating from the Industrial Network Cybersecurity diploma program. As Vice President of Equity and Sustainability for the BCIT Student Association, Moksh has strengthened equity and student well-being on campus through initiatives like the BCIT Community Fridge and International Student Awards. He has served as a liaison between BCITSA and the Institute, and held key roles as a Set Rep, club leader, and is currently a Junior Systems Analyst intern in the BCIT Information Technology Services department. Outside of BCIT, Moksh has advocated for students at regional forums and championed sustainability at events like the Climate Change Summit. His integrity, service, and dedication have made a positive impact on the student experience at BCIT.

Céline Loriot – Ceremony 6 (June 26 at 2:30 pm)

Céline Loriot is graduating from the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. She previously served as the President of the BCIT Student Association and a representative for over 50,000 students across six campuses on the BCIT Board of Governors. From advocating for food security and accessibility initiative such as the BCITSA Food Pantry, to collaborating with key community partners including Jack.org and Canadian Mental Health Association to support student mental health, her dedication to student well-being has left a lasting mark on the student body. As an active member of the BC Nurses’ Union and a future registered nurse, she continues to advocate for a stronger and more compassionate healthcare system.

Immanuel Eum – Ceremony 7 (June 27 at 10:00 am)

Immanuel Eum is graduating from the Architectural and Building Technology (ABT) diploma program. A dedicated leader and academic mentor, Immanuel served as Set Representative for both years of his program where he advocated for the needs of his cohort. His leadership extended beyond the classroom to sharing the ABT diploma program with prospective high school students with the hopes of inspiring the next generation of designers. As a peer tutor, Immanuel empowered his fellow students through collaborative learning and showcasing the importance of applied learning. His active participation in the BCIT community as well as within industry events like the Stantec Open House demonstrates a deep commitment to building strong communities and ensuring no student is left behind.
