In honour of Go by Bike Week, the Bike Team reflects on the support cyclists enjoy at BCIT.

A friendly and dedicated Cycling Committee
The BCIT Cycling Committee is a passionate group that wants to make cycling accessible for everyone, at every campus—from first-time riders to seasoned commuters. The committee hosts public events, provides resource materials, and collaborates with Campus Planning and Facilities on behalf of BCIT cyclists.

Cycling amenities at every BCIT campus
Each campus maintains bike-friendly facilities, including bike racks, showers, and changing rooms. Bike repair stations and pumps are available throughout the Burnaby Campus.
Teacher training that puts bikes back on the road
As part of the Technology Teacher Education (TTED) program at BCIT, students complete a bike mechanics module in which they learn to fully dismantle, inspect, repair, and reassemble a bicycle. Then, every repaired bike is donated to Kickstand—an organization that helps marginalized people access bicycles. Many TTED graduates go on to teach bike mechanics in their own programs in high schools.
Capstone projects that advance cycling technology
Each year, Electrical Engineering students participate in Capstone projects that help solve real-world problems. In 2026, students and industry partner Herd Technologies championed the Wireless Wearable Group Intercom—a hands-free prototype that allows groups of 2–4 cyclists to communicate through earpieces strapped to their helmets.

Advocacy to improve pedalling experiences
The Cycling Committee promotes local events like Go by Bike Week. They sponsor a BCIT Team to log their rides and advocate for better cycling experiences—propelling us towards a future with cleaner transportation for healthier communities.
