Modernizing BCIT’s Curriculum and Catalogue Management System

We are sharing an update on the Strategic Plan deliverable, “Implement Coursedog Curriculum and Catalogue Management System to provide a cleaner, more reliable and accurate way to automate workflow across program and curriculum design, reviews, changes and approvals at BCIT.” This important work supports our commitment to catalyze digital transformation at BCIT.

BCIT is modernizing the system used to manage curriculum and catalogue data to populate the Program Catalogue so that all program and course data, along with the processes used to manage and approve curriculum, will move to a cloud-based platform, Coursedog.

Coursedog will become BCIT’s source of truth for curriculum and catalogue data and will introduce standardized forms, automated workflows, and improved tracking of changes and version history. All change requests will be managed in one place, and through system integrations, approved data will flow to Banner and the Program Catalogue, ensuring consistency across systems.

This transition will also introduce effective dating for program changes, helping students understand their progress within a program.

As the new technology is introduced, we have taken a phased approach that prioritizes continuity while enabling future modernization. Initially, existing processes and data will move into Coursedog with minimal modification, preserving current structures where possible, while taking advantage of Coursedog functionality to simplify processes.

With the transition to Coursedog, users will be provided opportunities and resources to learn how to navigate the new system, access the required forms for making changes, and understand how course and program data is organized and displayed.

This fall, the team will offer system demonstrations, training, and release job aids and reference materials to support users as they prepare for the transition.

For more information about the modernization of our Curriculum and Catalogue Management System, we encourage employees to visit the Curriculum & Catalogue Management System Project (CCMS) on the Intranet or contact the CCMS Project team.
