I’m pleased to share an update on a key Strategic Plan deliverable: the BCIT Education Plan. This framework charts the course for who, what, when, where, and how we will teach and learn at BCIT in 2026 and beyond. At its heart, the Plan is about transforming teaching and learning—together.
Earlier this year, we built on the Strategic Plan’s commitments and, through open and ongoing consultation, co-created the BCIT Education Plan 2026-2031 Future Ready: Driving Applied Education for a Stronger BC —a framework endorsed by Education Council in June.
We’ve taken the first step—developing the Education Plan—and we’re already moving into what comes next. The focus now shifts to implementation through annual action plans that drive progress, stay responsive to context, and evolve as we learn.
The Education Plan sets three clear directions:
- Empower Educators. Enable Impact. Giving faculty the time, tools, and partnerships they need to focus on great teaching.
- Teach What Matters. Test What’s Real. Ensuring learning is meaningful and assessment is credible, ethical, and aligned with the real world.
- Clear the Path. Support the Climb. Strengthening foundations, pathways, and supports so every student can thrive and succeed.
These commitments are more than words—they are the roadmap for action, shaping annual plans that carry consultation forward.
Well ahead of the first annual action plan in 2026, the Education Plan is already shaping our work. Current priorities include identifying barriers to professional learning, sharing assessment mapping practices, and exploring flexible cohort pathway options—steps that will ensure Year One (April 2026) launches with clarity and momentum.
The Education Plan will only come alive when it’s lived in our classrooms, labs, and community. We look forward to building it together.
Visit our Academic Initiatives page to learn more about the journey so far, and if assessment is top of mind, join us tomorrow as we kick off the Food for Thought series open to all BCIT employees. Stay tuned—this is just the beginning.
