A comprehensive Residence Life Curriculum will drive programming designed for enhanced engagement, wellbeing, learning, and personal growth for students living on campus at BCIT. Informed by student voice and research data, the Student Housing team is working to articulate the needs of students and select the objectives that underpin this curriculum. The goal is to complete the draft and begin implementation while continuing to collect feedback from students.
Following a student experience curriculum development framework, we have completed an “archaeological dig” by reviewing BCIT’s strategic plans, student experience survey data, student demographics, and housing-specific data, including our annual Housing Survey, to inform our path forward. Core learning goals selected will anchor our educational plan and drive the development of program specifics. Recently, new and returning Residence Advisors participated in a focus group and feedback workshop to ensure we continuously focus on student perspective.
Developing a residence life curriculum puts words into action, directly addressing student needs and creating intentional environments that support student wellbeing and self-determination. Through a residence life curriculum, learning and growth outside of the classroom can be mapped, enhanced, assessed and improved, supporting student wellbeing and growth in new and exciting ways.
We look forward to crystalizing our learning goals into their final versions, developing learning goal narratives and outcomes, and reviewing and updating our strategies in implementing the curriculum. Elements of the new curriculum will be piloted in the months ahead in preparation for a full launch.
