Recognition in the Planning and Development category
The Planning and Development category features developments that use green building technologies and innovative environmental features.
BCIT’s Tall Timber Student Housing Building, used innovative mass timber technology, and prefabrication to meet the highest level of the BC Energy Step Code.

Natalka Lubiw, BCIT’s Director of Facilities Development comments, “I’m delighted to accept this award on behalf of the great team who worked with us on this project. They were able to support us to deliver a building that showcased innovation in construction and high-end energy performance, while also providing a welcoming home for 469 students.”
As the first large mass-timber building in Burnaby we were grateful that the City supported this vision and we hope it can be an example of the kind of innovation that can be achieved.”
Recognition for BCIT’s Bike Committee
An Environmental Star in the category of Green Choices was presented to the BCIT Bike Committee for their leadership and commitment to environmental sustainability through cycling education and advocacy on campus.

We work with our entire campus community to promote cycling as a healthy and environmentally friendly way to get around, which includes highlighting the network of paths around the City of Burnaby.
We are always looking for people that want to help promote sustainable transport and find ways to enhance cycling facilities on campus.”
