The Marine & Mass Timber Pavilion will enhance innovative and technical learning on BCIT’s campus. The Pavilion will provide a purpose built training space for BCIT’s specialist training programs in Marine, Steel, and Mass Timber Trades.

Training Equipment

The Pavilion will house two 10-tonne bridge cranes, as well as specialist equipment for steel trades training.

Sustainable Design

  • The Marine and Mass Pavilion showcases hybrid steel and mass timber construction. The large roof plane is supported by glulam beams on a steel column structure.
  • Hybrid structure includes mass timber roof, glulam beams and steel columns
  • The building is naturally ventilated and building systems are 100% electrified
  • Landscaping includes a raingarden native to help stormwater management, while planting will include native plants to support pollinators.

Construction Information

The site perimeter will take up a section of lot A, adjacent to NE12 and Carey Avenue.

Pedestrian and Vehicle Access
• Carey Avenue and Goard Way will remain open for vehicle traffic.
• Parking will continue to be available in the lot A stalls outside the site closure; however, 67 student/public spaces in the project area will be removed. Pedestrian access will be maintained along Carey Avenue.
• The small area of covered motorcycle parking in lot A will be removed to create a pedestrian route around the site
