I am sharing an update on the Strategic Plan deliverable, “Advance BCIT’s Land Asset Strategy”. This important work supports our commitment to foster vibrant and inclusive communities at BCIT.
We are continuing to work closely with the Ministry on the creation of the Property Trust and Business Case development focused on the Burnaby Campus Willingdon and Canada Way corner site, in preparation for the approval by the BCIT Board of Governors and the Province of BC.
We are undergoing due diligence by conducting technical analyses (geotechnical, environmental, engineering, and surveys) of the corner site in order to inform the Business Case and reduce future development risk. We are also evaluating current market conditions, development potential, and revenue projections.
We are actively engaging with the City of Burnaby on their recently approved new Official Community Plan “Burnaby 2050” to ensure that the BCIT Campus Plan and Land Strategy vision is aligned with the municipality’s planning policy and regulatory framework.
We also delivered a workshop with the BCIT Board of Governors focusing on long term campus planning in the context of the BCIT Strategic Plan, Education Plan, and the Land Asset Strategy.
More updates regarding implementation of the Land Asset Strategy will be provided to the BCIT Board of Governors later this month.
For further context, the BCIT Land Asset Strategy is intended to support student needs and accelerate delivery of educational programs and spaces by leveraging our campus lands and available density assets for the benefit of the educational vision and long-term financial sustainability of the Institute. The purpose of this work is to:
- Accelerate delivery of the educational vision;
- Improve vibrancy of the BCIT campuses through partnerships;
- Advance reconciliation, environmental sustainability, and other key institute and ministry priorities; and
- Generate additional income streams to support long term financial sustainability and strategic priorities.
Thank you,
