We are pleased to share an update on the Strategic Plan deliverable, “Finalize and launch the IDEAS Lens Learning Badge to the BCIT community to raise awareness and promote IDEAS across the institution.” This important work supports our commitment to foster vibrant and inclusive communities at BCIT.
Since the March 2026 update, the IDEAS Learning Badge program has officially launched and is available to BCIT employees. The program provides a flexible professional learning pathway that helps participants strengthen their understanding of IDEAS (Indigenous, inclusion, diversity, equity, accessibility, sustainability, and student wellbeing) while earning digital recognition for their learning.
A new introductory IDEAS Lens course was created and serves as the foundation of the program. Participants can progress through three badge levels, IDEAS Lens Supporter, IDEAS Lens Advocate, and IDEAS Lens Ambassador, by completing a wide variety of free, online courses.
The program brings together learning opportunities developed across multiple areas of BCIT, including Respect, Diversity and Inclusion, Indigenous Initiatives and Partnerships, Institute Sustainability, and Student Success. Available courses include Indigenous Awareness, Anti-Racism, Human Rights 101, Relearning Gender, Safer Campuses for Everyone, Unconscious Bias, Accommodations for Students with Disabilities, Universal Design for Learning Unpacked, and other related learning opportunities.
We invite all employees to start their journey in obtaining IDEAS Lens learning badges.
Thank you,
Simon Lam, Director, Respect, Diversity, and Inclusion Office
