Picture a career where you’re not just following routines – you’re designing smarter processes, solving real problems, and turning big ideas into reality. The BCIT Operations & Management Engineering Diploma prepares you for just that.
This two-year, full‑time, in‑person diploma is for students who are passionate about making a measurable difference. If you’re a strong problem‑solver, creative thinker, team leader, or simply fascinated by how things work and how they can work even better, this program is the perfect fit.
A 50‑year legacy with a modern twist
Launched 50 years ago as Operations Management Technology, the program later became Business Operations Management, and has now evolved to Operations & Management Engineering – a name that better captures its unique hybrid focus.
“The new name better encapsulates the hybrid nature of the program. We’re combining strong business fundamentals with systematic, data‑informed methods to solve operational problems across industries,” says Phil Ramer, Associate Dean, Operations Management, BCIT School of Business + Media.
Skills that set this program apart
Our curriculum offers a blend of business, operations, supply chain, and industrial engineering methods alongside training in team management, to ensure graduates can successfully lead and implement innovations in their careers and beyond.
Hands-on industry projects enable students to put their skills into practice and make a strong contribution in their future workplaces. The blend of technology, critical thinking, and optimization methods places our graduates in high demand in any industry.
Real world impact upon graduating
Within this program, every student receives the opportunity to tackle two Business Consulting Projects by working directly with local organizations: hospitals, manufacturers, retail chains, municipalities, and more. Every year, BCIT takes on 30–40 projects, giving students the chance to work with real clients, produce real deliverables, and make a real-world impact.
“These projects enable our students to put their knowledge into practice and make a measurable, real-world contribution to clients’ operations and financial performance,” says Jason Young, Program Head, Operations & Management Engineering Diploma.

Building in-demand skills
BC’s employment is projected to grow around 1.4% per year, with 1.12 million job openings projected between 2024–2034. Many of these opportunities will be in sectors such as Business, Finance and Administration, as well as Professional, Scientific and Technical Services. Of these job openings, 40% will require a college diploma credential or higher.
Graduates of the Operations & Management Engineering Diploma program are well-equipped to meet this demand. They gain essential skills in designing efficient systems, optimizing processes, and managing operations across a wide range of industries. In the past years, 92% of BCIT graduates find employment after graduating.
“This diploma equips students with the exact tools and mindset employers are looking for, from data-driven process improvement to real-world project leadership,” adds Jason Young.
