BCIT welcomes Dr. Dawn Whitworth to BCIT as Dean, Applied Research and Innovation, based at the BCIT Centre for Applied Research and Innovation (CARI).
Dawn brings extensive leadership experience in advancing applied and interdisciplinary research, alongside a strong track record of building partnerships across academia, industry, and community. Her appointment comes at an exciting time for BCIT as we continue to grow our impact in applied research, innovation, and student-integrated learning.
Dawn joins BCIT from Capilano University, where she most recently served as Associate Vice President, Creative Activity, Research and Scholarship & Graduate Studies. In this role, she provided leadership, oversight, and strategic vision for research and scholarship while strengthening external partnerships. She has also held senior roles at the University of British Columbia and Emily Carr University of Art + Design, and earlier in her career contributed to applied research and programming initiatives at BCIT.
With more than 20 years of leadership experience, Dawn has supported the development of research collaborations and secured funding through federal, provincial, and international agencies.
In her new role, Dawn will provide leadership for applied research and innovation at BCIT, helping to strengthen collaboration across the Institute and advance opportunities for researchers, students, and external partners.
