New leadership appointed to BCIT Board of Governors

The British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) welcomes Don Matthew, CPA, CA, ICD.D, as Chair of the BCIT Board of Governors.

Don brings more than 40 years of executive leadership, governance, and financial expertise across manufacturing, construction, transportation and distribution, technology, and power generation industries. Prior to his retirement in September 2022, he served as an Audit Partner and National Industry Leader for the Industrial Manufacturing Industry Group at KPMG.

Don is a member of the National Board of Directors of the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters (CME) and a former member of the Board of Governors at the University of Alberta. He has also served on boards and committees with chambers of commerce in Richmond, Vancouver, Edmonton, and British Columbia, as well as the Aerospace Industry Association of BC. Most recently, Don served as Vice Chair of the BCIT Board of Governors from June 2024 to June 2026.

Welcoming Vice Chair and elected Student Representatives

With Don Matthew serving as Chair, BCIT also welcomes Stepan Vdovine as Vice Chair, as well as Joseph Yuruk and Polina Omelyantseva as newly elected Student Representatives.

Stepan Vdovine is Vice President, Executive Operations at Amacon, one of Canada’s leading real estate development, construction, and property management companies. With more than two decades of leadership experience in the private and public sectors, Stepan’s career has focused on governance, public policy, and strategy. He brings extensive experience building partnerships between industry, government, and community stakeholders to advance projects that strengthen BC’s economy and workforce.

Joseph Yuruk and Polina Omelyantseva have been elected by the student body as Student Representatives on the BCIT Board of Governors. Both have held leadership roles within the BCIT Student Association and are committed to enhancing the student experience at BCIT.

BCIT extends its sincere appreciation to departing Board of Governors Chair Mike Bonshor and Board Member Corry Anderson-Fennell for their service. Mike and Corry conclude their terms on July 31, 2026.
