I am sharing an update on the Strategic Plan deliverable, “Launch AI Council and AI Taskforce cross-functional teams to guide operations, teaching, and learning use of AI at BCIT.” This important work supports our commitment to catalyze digital transformation at BCIT.
This spring, BCIT launched an AI Council and a subsidiary AI Taskforce. These groups are developing strategies designed to ensure faculty, students, and staff can leverage AI tools in a sustainable and responsible way. BCIT’s Education Plan recognizes that AI is transforming education and industry. Through the work of these groups, BCIT is advancing our commitment to AI literacy, critical thinking, and ethical responsibility. This gives educators opportunities to explore how AI can enhance creativity, improve learning experiences, and strengthen industry partnerships.
Toward these goals, the AI Taskforce is working to develop some practical guidance to inform future AI initiatives at BCIT. These include an inventory of all AI activity taking place at BCIT, a set of guidelines to help inform the use of AI, a review of relevant institute policies, and a register of identified risks and mitigations. The AI Council has launched the AI@BCIT Resource Hub on the Intranet. The site is a central hub where employees can explore how AI is being used across the Institute, access information and guidance, and learn more about the work of the AI Council and AI Taskforce. The site will be updated as the AI Taskforce deliverables are completed.
Thank you,
