Major capital business case development

Craig Sidjak-Oct 27

I am sharing an update on the Strategic Plan deliverable I’m leading, which falls under our commitment to future-proof applied education, and the initiative for augmented and sustainable environments.

Facilities and Campus Development, in conjunction with several project stakeholders, have been working on the completion of Business Plans required by the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training for major capital project initiatives. The key outcome of these business plans provide the Ministry with a more refined scope description and cost estimate for each proposal and directly support the Institute’s INSPIRE fundraising campaign.

On September 17, the Ministry announced approval for the $115 Million 464-bed student housing residence to be constructed as a 12-storey tall mass timber building. The building site is situated on Willingdon Avenue, adjacent to Building SW3.

The Trades & Technology Complex business plan, valued at $213 million, was submitted to the Ministry this past summer. This proposal includes several new innovative educational facilities plus the refurbishment of existing instructional buildings. Ministry staff are actively reviewing the proposal and we anticipate Ministry direction in the coming months.

Facilities and Campus Development, in conjunction with the School of Construction and Environment, recently initiated the business plan design process for the Centre for Ecological Restoration and Climate Adaptation (CERCA) facility. This feasibility study will be ready for submission to the Ministry by spring 2021.

Thank you,
