I am pleased to provide an update on the Strategic Plan deliverable “The completion of Tall Timber Student Housing,” that supports our commitment to foster vibrant and inclusive communities at BCIT.
The BCIT Tall Timber Student Housing project aims to provide affordable, sustainable housing for BCIT students. The twelve-storey mass timber building accommodates 469 student beds in–studio and single units, a resident manager’s suite with two beds, common spaces and support areas, and an accessible outdoor plaza. The use of steel cores, mass timber structural panels, and prefabricated envelope panels raises the bar on sustainability and innovation in delivering a beautiful centrepiece on the Burnaby campus.
In August 2025, construction of the building was substantially completed with Occupancy Permit granted by the City of Burnaby. Student Housing staff, Resident Assistants, and Resident Managers have already moved in, with the remaining students set to arrive this Labour Day weekend.
The handover of operations to Student Housing and Facilities Services has been achieved. Moving forward, any required optimizations is ongoing, with the Construction Contract Warranty in effect for one year. To ensure efficiency, warranty and deficiency reporting and tracking have been set up in Archibus.
Thank you,
Natalka Lubiw
