A new BCIT People Plan

We are sharing an update on the Strategic Plan deliverable, “Refresh the People Vision with the new Strategic Plan and Indigenous, Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, Sustainability, and Student Wellbeing (IDEAS) Lens, with a continued focus on describing BCIT’s goals and priorities with respect to our people.” This important work supports our commitment to foster vibrant and inclusive communities at BCIT.

People, Culture, and Inclusion (PCI) is excited to co‑create a new People Plan (2026–2031) together with the BCIT community. The Strategic Plan reminds us that our strength comes from our people—staff, faculty, and management—working collectively to navigate changing technologies, evolving industry needs, and a complex organizational environment. At the same time, the IDEAS Lens calls us to build a more connected, inclusive, and sustainable culture across BCIT. The People Plan will help us reshape our culture, support wellbeing, and deepen collaboration. Our aim is simple: to create a place where everyone feels they belong and can bring their full talents to work—so that, together, we help our students thrive.

In the People Plan, we’re using the same terminology as is used in BCIT’s Strategic Plan. The plan encompasses commitments, initiatives, and deliverables. In consultation with employees across PCI, we’ve drafted four commitments and purpose statements about why these commitments matter. Our commitments may sound familiar with other post‑secondary institutions, but what makes our People Plan unique, is how we collaborate, include diverse voices, and advance our initiatives together as a community.

Beginning February 2026, we will be reaching out across the Institute to invite meaningful feedback and hold thoughtful conversations. Together, we’ll explore questions such as:

  • Which of the four commitments feel most relevant to your work and why?
  • What initiatives (3-5 year projects) would make these commitments real in your day-to-day work?
  • What quick wins can we achieve in Year 1? What deliverables matter most?
  • What would success on the People Plan look like for you? How would it affect your employee experience?
  • How do you want to stay informed and involved as the Plan progresses?

Please bring your perspectives to our People Plan conversations and help turn aspirations into action. Your ideas will shape the commitments, refine the initiatives that matter most, and guide us toward the best outcome for our Year 1 deliverables. In June, we look forward to sharing a People Plan that truly reflects employees’ voices—one that shows your input mattered and your ideas clearly reflected in the People Plan that will guide us forward.
