The British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) and Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Dresden University of Applied Sciences (HTWD) have formalized a new partnership with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This agreement marks the launch of a joint study program and the beginning of long-term collaboration between the two institutions.

The BCIT delegation—President Dr. Jeff Zabudsky, School of Energy Dean Dr. Andrea Frisque, and Mechanical Engineering Associate Dean Jeanie Chan—visited the HTWD campus to sign the agreement and explore opportunities for students in both countries to expand their global perspectives in energy, mechanical engineering, and sustainable technologies.

Through this partnership, BCIT and HTWD will explore student and faculty exchanges, joint curriculum development, and collaborative research and development projects.

“This international opportunity allows students to immerse themselves in global perspectives and embrace the shared language of engineering,” says Dr. Andrea Frisque, Dean of the BCIT School of Energy.

HTWD is the second-largest university in Dresden, offering 36 programs across eight faculties. Its Faculty of Mechanical Engineering provides pathways in General Mechanical Engineering, Vehicle Engineering, Production Engineering, and Building Systems Management—all areas where BCIT students stand to benefit.

This partnership represents a significant step in advancing international collaboration in engineering education and research. Together, BCIT and HTWD are building a bridge for students to gain the skills and knowledge needed to lead innovation in a rapidly evolving, interconnected world.

BCIT offers a wide range of credentials and career paths in mechanical engineering. Students can prepare for careers as engineering technologists or pursue pathways to become mechanical engineers.
