Installing the Banner icon onto your desktop

If you do not see the Banner icon on your desktop, please follow these steps to load it.

1. On your computer search bar at the bottom, type in Company Portal.
   
2. Click on the Company Portal APP.
   
3. Click on the Banner 9 APP.
   
4. Install the Banner 9 APP.

Banner resources

Banner training is the responsibility of each department.

Banner resource materials have been created to support departmental training and can be found on the ITS Knowledge Base website.

To access Banner navigational and how-to documents (created by subject matter experts) pertaining to some commonly used Banner pages within the Institute, log into kb.bcit.ca, click on the drop-down menu to select Faculty and Staff Resources, and enter “Banner” in the Search box.

Yes, after 75 minutes of inactivity Banner will log you out of your session.

When you receive the error message “Invalid username/password; logon denied” it means that you have not been granted access to Banner yet. Check with your department manager/head to confirm that an IT ticket was submitted to set up your access.

When you receive the error message “No Results Found”, check that you have entered the seven character page name correctly into the Dashboard or Search bar. Once you correct your input the error should go away.

If the page has been entered correctly and you are still receiving the error “No Results Found” then you do not have access to that page. In Banner, only pages that you have access to will be listed in the results when you use the Dashboard or Search bar to access pages.

No, Java is not required for Banner. Banner 9 is web based and therefore does not require the Java plugin like Banner 8 did.

Any modern browser can be used for Banner (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, etc.). Internet Explorer is not recommended. To access Banner from a different browser, enter the URL:

You will require VPN.

NOTE: The icon loaded by BCIT will take the user to Chrome Incognito.

Opening Google Chrome in Incognito mode means that Chrome will not save the following information:

• Your browsing history
• Cookies and site data
• Information entered in forms

Yes, you can have multiple sessions open through multiple tabs or even different browsers. However, you should only be maintaining records in one session.

If you are experiencing issues with your Banner session freezing you can often resolve this by refreshing your browser. Making sure your browser cache is cleared can also be helpful.

Yes, Banner can be accessed off campus, but you must be logged into a VPN:

• Access Anywhere or
• myVPN

Yes, as long as you type the URL https://bap-prod.bcit.ca/applicationNavigator in the browser and are connected to the BCIT network.

NOTE: Tablets, iPads and laptops provide the best user interface experience when using Banner on a mobile device. While phones on the encrypted network can access Banner, the size of the device does not work well with the layout of the pages.

All managed BCIT Mac devices will have the BCIT Self-Services application. Find the Banner app, and click to install. Once installed, it should be available in your Application folder and you will be able to click and run. The script will open Banner via Google Chrome’s Incognito, and if Google Chrome is not installed, you will receive an error message telling you to install it.

No. When connected to the BCIT network you can access Banner directly through the URL https://bap-prod.bcit.ca/applicationNavigator

Individual users cannot choose a personal color in the Banner applications at this time.

If you have access to BDM / applicationXtender, use the ADD and RETRIEVE icons found at the top menu bar to view / manage documents.

If you have not been granted access to us BDM, you will receive an error message when clicking on these two buttons.

No, Banner Self Service was not impacted by the Banner 9 technical upgrade.

The Banner 9 technical upgrade did not affect other software such as:

• Cognos (reporting software)
• TM1 (budgeting software)
• Millenium (purchasing software) – NOTE: Effective April 15, 2020, there is a new login process. Please refer to information on the Corporate Services SharePoint site.
