Planning for the Future

Our capital plan sets the priorities for development over five years. The current capital plan prioritizes three projects for 2021-25.

2021-2025 priorities

These projects are the Trades and Technology Complex, South Campus Infrastructure Renewal Project, and the Centre for Ecological Restoration and Climate Adaptation (CERCA).

Each project meets four key priorities for the Institute.

Support the training and reskilling of the workforce and support the development of new professions that support the Provincial economy
Renew BCIT’s buildings and infrastructure to deliver an outstanding 21^st century education
Provide opportunities for collaborative, interdisciplinary education, that makes the best use of the Institute’s expertise
Build on BCIT’s external partnerships with First Nations, industry, government, and community

Priority projects

Trades and Technology

The new Trades & Technology Complex, anchored by the Concert Properties Centre for Trades and Technology building, will create a world-leading, adaptive learning environment for 21st-century trades education.

Centre for Ecological Restoration and Climate Adaptation

A centre for 21st-Century learning and scientific incubation, CERCA will build on BCIT’s history of excellence in ecological restoration and climate adaptation.

South Campus Infrastructure Renewal

This project will give a much-needed renewal of essential infrastructure at South Campus.

The 5 year capital plan sets BCIT’s priorities for major development projects over the next five years.

The current capital plan runs from 2021-25.

BCIT has an outstanding history of trades education that dates back to the Institute’s founding in the 1960’s. The new Trades & Technology Complex will create a world-leading, adaptive learning environment for 21st-century trades education.

A centre for 21st-Century learning and scientific incubation, CERCA will build on BCIT’s history of excellence in ecological restoration and climate adaptation. The facility will bring new capabilities for applied research and teaching that will make a tangible impact on these two crucial areas.

The centre will assemble state-of-the-art programs, learning spaces, rooftop greenhouses and industry-leading research facilities into a unique ecosystem of learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and knowledge exchange.

State of the art learning spaces
Computer laboratories
Project based and collaborative learning spaces
An example of ecological restoration on the doorstep, in the restored and “daylighting” of Guichon Creek

This project will give a much-needed renewal of essential infrastructure at South Campus.

This includes:

Replacement of aging electrical infrastructure and connection to the new BC Hydro 25kv network
Replacement of aging stormwater infrastructure, and replacement of the culvert at Guichon Creek
Replacement of other critical infrastructure, sanitary, water, and gas
