Four students from the BCIT Carpentry Foundation program have been recognized as recipients of the 2026 Homebuilders Association Vancouver (HAVAN) BCIT Scholarships, which support learners pursuing careers in residential construction.
This year’s recipients — Declan Lawlor, Jaxon Jennex, Timothy Smith, and Adam Phair — were announced during HAVAN’s Annual General Meeting (AGM). The scholarships recognize students who have demonstrated a strong commitment to their training, as well as skill development and potential within the homebuilding industry.

Dave Richardson, Department Head for Carpentry, attended the AGM on behalf of BCIT to celebrate the students’ achievements and reinforce the strong relationship between BCIT and industry partners.
“The HAVAN scholarship provides meaningful support to our Carpentry Foundation students as they focus on developing their skills and preparing for careers as carpenters,” says Dave. “Industry partnerships like this highlight the dedication and hard work of our students, and reinforce that their skills are both valued and needed by the construction industry.”
Now in its 22nd year, the HAVAN BCIT Scholarship program supports students pursuing careers in residential construction at a time when the province continues to face strong demand for skilled trades professionals. Scholarships such as these help reduce financial barriers for students while encouraging entry into an industry that plays a critical role in meeting British Columbia’s housing needs.
The scholarships are funded through HAVAN’s Fall Classic Golf Tournament, led by HAVAN’s Suppliers’ Council, with presenting sponsor Baka Communications, Inc., in partnership with the Centra Cares program.
BCIT and HAVAN have a long‑standing partnership rooted in a shared commitment to workforce development, industry‑aligned training, and student success. Through ongoing collaboration, the scholarship program recognizes emerging talent and helps strengthen the future of the residential construction sector.
BCIT extends its thanks to HAVAN and its industry partners for their continued support of carpentry education and for helping foster the next generation of skilled trades professionals.
