At Kwantlen Polytechnic University\, she holds the Chancellor’s Chair and teaches in Educational Studies and leads research on integrating the UN SDGs into curricula. SUMMARY:Strong Voices: Kate Braid and Christina Shah at the ConnectHER Hub
DESCRIPTION:Come join us for readings and a Q&A by two amazing Industrial Writers and Canadian Icons: \nKate Braid worked for 15 years as a construction carpenter\, contractor and BCIT instructor. She is also the author of 21 books and chapbooks of non-fiction and prize-winning poetry including two books of poetry and two memoirs of her years in construction. Her latest non-fiction book is\, “The Erotics of Cutting Grass: Reflections on a Well-Loved Life\,” (all with Caitlin Press.) Kate lives with her partner and dog on Pender Island on the traditional territories of the Lekwungen people of the Songhees\, Esquimalt and Tsawout First Nations. See www.katebraid.com \n  \n  \n\nChristina Shah lives in New Westminster and works in heavy industry\, where she drinks from the firehose of knowledge. Her poetry has appeared in numerous Canadian literary journals. Her work has been shortlisted for the Fiddlehead’s 2021 Ralph Gustafson Poetry Prize and has appeared in Best Canadian Poetry 2023. She is one-fifth of the Harbour Centre 5 poetry collective\, whose chapbook\, Brine\, was released in 2022. Her first video poem\, “rig veda” (in collaboration with videographer Mark Mushet)\, was translated into Spanish and screened internationally. rig veda\, her first solo chapbook (Anstruther Press)\, received an honourable mention for the bpNichol Chapbook Award in 2024. if: prey\, then: huntress is her first full-length poetry collection.
