In 2021, BCIT completed two voluntary self-reporting frameworks for higher education institutions to measure their sustainability performance against their peers:
- Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS)
- Universitas Indonesia GreenMetric (UIGM)
What is the difference between STARS and UIGM?
One major difference between the two is the type of recognition – UIGM provides a ranking of all participants while STARS provides a rating of bronze, silver, gold or platinum in addition to rankings. UIGM ranks institutions in 6 categories while STARS looks at 17 sustainability impact areas.

The Sustainable Development Goals Accord
BCIT will be submitting our first Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Accord report in spring 2023. Our data will be compiled with that of other signatories to produce a SDG Accord Annual Report for 2023 that will be presented at the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development with BCIT listed as a reporting signatory.
