Overview

A Construction Craft Worker installs utility piping, places concrete, constructs roads, performs selective demolition, performs underground work, assists skilled tradespersons such as Carpenters, Bricklayers and Cement Finishers in construction activities, helps Heavy Equipment Operators secure special attachments to equipment, guide operators in moving equipment and perform laboring activities at construction sites. They are employed by a wide variety of general contractors, municipalities, and oil and gas companies.

In order to qualify for a Certificate of Qualification with Red Seal Endorsement and a Certificate of Apprenticeship, the apprentice must complete the following:

Recommended for certification signed by the Sponsor and an individual holding a credentials eligible for sign-off authority

Within two weeks of submitting your training request, a letter will be mailed to your home address. This letter provides instruction on how to sign on to myBCIT, your one stop shop for BCIT apprentice communication. myBCIT is where you will receive your training confirmation details.

Costs & Supplies

Tuition fees

Please see the Fees, Payments and Refunds section of the website for information on full-time tuition fees.

Books and supplies

Apprentices are expected to bring their CSA-approved steel-toed boots and hard hat. Cost of books and supplies to be determined.

Financial assistance

Income support for apprentices is provided by Human Resource Development Canada (HRDC) through regular Employment Insurance (EI) eligibility. For questions regarding Employment Insurance or Personal Support Payments, please visit the income support overview for current BCIT apprentices.

Program Details

Program length

The total amount of in-school, technical training for a construction craft worker apprenticeship is 240 hours. There are two levels of technical training; each is four weeks long.

Grading

Minimum passing grade is 70 percent.
