Essentials of Website Storytelling

The quality of your website and online presence is more important than ever—is yours engaging and grabbing your audience?

The BCIT Essentials of Website Storytelling program is designed to give you key skills you can apply immediately to creating better online content. Through a group of six courses, you’ll learn to develop your own modern, effective website. With each course, you’ll build on a new layer of media skills, including advanced sound, images, engaging text, and design.

And in less than a year, you can earn your Essentials of Website Storytelling Statement of Completion, along with the confidence and knowledge of how to use the age-old technique of storytelling with today’s technology to help you reach your business goals.

Some students enroll at the request of their current employer to add new responsibilities and bring more value to their current position—be sure to ask your employer if they offer tuition reimbursement for job-related training.

About Part-time Studies

Take a single course, or work towards a credential — all at a pace that's right for you.

Part-time courses are offered in a variety of scheduling formats, including at night or on weekends, flexible day time delivery, or you can opt for distance or online learning. If you meet the prerequisites and there's space available, you can register for a course immediately. Courses are offered in each of three terms: Fall (September), Winter (January) and Spring/Summer (April).

To be successful in BCIT's fast paced applied learning environment, it is strongly recommended that students have English proficiency in all four language skills: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Two years of education in English in an English-speaking country and English 12 are strongly recommended for success. For information on English equivalencies, testing and upgrading options, visit:
Formal application to the Statement of Completion is not required. Upon successful completion of the courses, email the Program Contact with your full name, student number, and mailing address to be issued a Statement of Completion.

Program Details

This program is designed by industry professionals to quickly give you the key skills you need to build an effective online presence. In it, you’ll learn how to harness the power of storytelling in social media, create high-quality sound recordings, and design and publish content for print, web, and tablet apps.

With intense, hands-on training, you’ll develop skills that you can use immediately to enhance your company’s, or your own, online presence.

In the BCIT Essentials of Website Storytelling program, you’ll learn to:
  • Produce visually appealing layouts with Adobe InDesign
  • Create interactive PDF files
  • Correct, enhance, and adjust images
  • Record and mix audio and apply basic effects
  • Produce a variety of audio projects
