Course Details

Focuses on the application of marketing principles and strategies to the Accommodation sector of Tourism. Includes how a variety of resort/hotel marketing departments are organized, responsibilities assigned and functions established. The role of personal selling, sales reporting and monitoring techniques, as well as communication and media used to effectively reach specified target markets will also be examined.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Describe the role of the sales & marketing function in a hotel/resort.
  • Identify revenue sources/opportunities available to a hotel/resort.
  • Demonstrate the applications of yield management techniques to increase revenue.
  • Describe the components of a hotel/resort's marketing plan in relation to the business mix.
  • Describe key customer segments for various types of hotels and resorts.
  • Identify typical organizational structures for hotel and resort marketing and sales departments.
  • Differentiate the various marketing distribution channels and partnerships used in the hotel/resort industry.
