Study Skills Part-time Studies Course

Course Details

The purpose of this course is to help students develop a set of study skills and methods that lead to student success. Some of the topics covered include: time management, effective reading, note-taking, memory, presentations, problem-solving, exam preparation, and stress management. An introduction to the services and resources available at BCIT are also covered. The course has a number of assignments and activities that reinforce the use of different strategies.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Students will be able to assess their current approach to studying.
  • Students will be able to develop a personal set of strategies for effective studying.
  • Students will be aware of the range of services and resources available to them.
  • Students will be able to characterize their learning style.
  • Students will hone the ability to prepare and give a presentation.
  • Students will know how academic skills are applied in the workplace.
