Course Details

This course extends analysis of human behaviour in the organization toward development and refinement of models in the decision-making process. The extended analysis will encompass the development of organizations toward open systems capable of effective responses to strategic change. Students learn how to apply behavioural models in implementing strategic change.

This is a new course and is currently scheduled to be offered for the first time through BCIT Part-time Studies in the Winter 2022 term.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Apply appropriate ethical change models and techniques in managing various strategic change situations.
  • Apply the most appropriate sustainable management styles in resolving strategic change management issues.
  • Formulate and apply the most useful tactics to motivate people in organizations to change and enhance ethical and sustainable behaviours.
  • Implement a strategic change plan, including lobbying (influencing government relations) and crisis management, through case studies and experiential learning exercises.
  • Apply the TOPS Model to a range of strategic change issues (clarifying the problems, setting objectives, determining the best solution for resolutions, implementing strategic change, and measuring ethical and sustainable performance).
  • Create a strategic change management model relevant to their work experience.
  • Adapt strategic implementation tactics including the nature and role of government in society, government structure, and government public policy processes, to a business situation.
  • Develop a strategic change management model, complete with corporate social responsibility and performance standards.
  • Apply their understanding of contemporary theories and practices, the acquisition and use of skills that relate to management to improve their own effectiveness as members and leaders in organizations.
